As a PADI professional, same as for a beginning diver, this is a never ending skill and you only can get better due to practice. Whenever you change environment, equipment or if you haven’t dived in a while you will need to change or adjust weights.
Starting from the first Open Water course session you should emphasize how important weight checks are and how to adjust weight properly. But it just doesn’t stop there, a role model instructor should do so on every course. You should be able to identify bad weight distribution and give proper briefings and insights on how to correct the problem. The how and why is important to make your students understand what they need to do.
